Joana Castro Pereira

Joana Castro Pereira is Assistant Professor of Politics and International Relations at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto. Her research interests include the political economy of Amazonian deforestation, the politics of climate change in Latin America, sustainability transformations, and international relations in the Anthropocene. Pereira’s work has appeared in Climate Policy, Global Environmental Politics, Review of International Studies, International Relations, Global Policy, and Contemporary Politics, among other journals. She is co-author of  Building Capabilities for Earth System Governance (Cambridge University Press, 2024) and Climate Change and Biodiversity Governance in the Amazon (Routledge, 2022), which was shortlisted for the ‘Susan Strange Best Book Prize 2022’ from the British International Studies Association (BISA). She is also co-editor of the volume Non-Human Nature in World Politics (Springer, 2020). Pereira has collaborated with the European Union Institute for Security Studies (EUISS), the EU-LAC Foundation, and the Global Challenges Foundation.
